Why we picked it: Most walking pads are 43 to 58 inches long and 19 to 25 inches wide, so a 78 x 36-inch mat covers any of them with a generous border, and it also fits most standard treadmills. That means you buy one size and never measure again, even if you later upgrade to a bigger machine. At 4.7 lb it is easy to lift when you move the pad, and ProsourceFit says the lightly textured, slip-resistant PVC surface reduces noise and vibration. It is 1/4 inch thick high-density PVC with a dual-sided pattern designed to stop equipment shifting, and BarBend found the tacky surface kept machines from creeping. That makes it a sensible pick for a walking pad on a smooth hardwood or vinyl floor. BarBend also reported two drawbacks: a strong smell out of the box and minimal noise dampening. If you are sensitive to vinyl odor, unroll it in a ventilated room for a few days before use.

Why we picked it: BarBend chose this mat for carpet, and Sunny's four sizes let you match the mat to the pad instead of buying one big sheet. The S size (51 x 23.5 inches) suits compact pads up to about 49 inches long, such as the DeerRun Q2 Urban or Merach W50 Lite; the M (79 x 35.5 inches) fits every walking pad; and the L (90.5 x 39.5 inches) is Sunny's treadmill size. Why we picked it: SuperMats makes treadmill mats in more lengths than anyone else here: the GS range runs from the 30GS (30 x 72 inches) through the 11GS (36 x 78 inches) to the 12GS (36 x 90 inches), and its commercial solid-vinyl mats reach 102 inches. That matters if you own a full-size treadmill as well as, or instead of, a walking pad. The 11GS we link is 78 x 36 inches of dense vinyl foam, made in the USA per the Amazon title, and BarBend found it arrived flat. For a walking pad alone, the narrower 30GS is the better size. SuperMats does not publish thickness; BarBend measured about 3 mm and said it may be thinner than advertised, and it reported a black powdery residue on unboxing.

How to choose a treadmill mat: buying guide

Size maths: walking pads vs full treadmills

Measure the machine's footprint (length and width), then pick a mat at least 2 inches longer and 2 inches wider, so there is about an inch of mat beyond the frame on every side. That border keeps the feet and wheels on the mat when the pad shifts slightly. If you want to step off onto the mat, add more width on one side. Walking pads are much smaller than full treadmills. From the specs we track, the DeerRun Q2 Urban is 42.6 x 19.7 inches, the UREVO SpaceWalk 3S 51.6 x 22.1 inches, the WalkingPad C2 57 x 20 inches, and the LifeSpan TR1200-DT3 63 x 28.5 inches. Full-size treadmills such as the Sunny SF-T7515 (64.5 x 28 inches) and SOLE F63 (75 x 34 inches) need much longer mats.

If your pad lives under a desk, measure the space between the desk legs as well. A wide mat may not fit between the legs, and a mat that rides up a desk foot will not lie flat.

Thickness: protection, not cushioning

The mats here run from about 3 mm (SuperMats, as measured by BarBend) to 1/4 inch or 6 mm (Gorilla, BalanceFrom). All of them protect the floor; none of them changes how the deck feels under your feet in any meaningful way, because the pad's own deck and shocks do that. Thicker mats spread the load better on soft floors and resist dents, but they can also compress unevenly under a heavy machine, and Gorilla notes heavy equipment may leave imprints over time. For a walking pad of 35 to 70 lb, 4 to 6 mm is plenty.

Hard floors vs carpet

On hardwood, laminate and vinyl, the mat's job is to stop scratches and dents from the feet and wheels and to stop the pad creeping as you walk. A grippy surface, such as BalanceFrom's, helps with creep. On carpet, the job is a flat, firm base: soft pile lets the pad rock and sink unevenly. Noise and vibration

Set expectations low. A thin mat can stop a rattle between the pad's feet and a hard floor and damp a little vibration, but BarBend found minimal noise dampening from the BalanceFrom, and none of these brands publishes decibel figures. Material, smell and care

All five mats are PVC or vinyl based. Gorilla states its mats are phthalate-free and 16P-free certified. BarBend reported a strong smell from the BalanceFrom and a powdery residue on the SuperMats, so plan to air and wipe a new mat before use. To make any mat last, lift the machine onto it rather than dragging it (BarBend notes the Sunny can tear), wipe it with a damp cloth, and clean up silicone lubricant straight away, because it makes the surface slippery.
