This page explains exactly how UnderDeskWalker builds its buying guides and reviews, so you can judge how much weight to give our recommendations.
What we do not do
We do not run a test lab, and we do not claim to have tested the products on this site. You will not find invented testers, star ratings we made up, or stories about how a pad felt underfoot. When a page describes noise, feel or build quality, it names the source of that information.
The sources we compare
- Manufacturer spec sheets and product pages from brands such as UREVO, KingSmith (WalkingPad), Merach, DeerRun, LifeSpan Fitness, Sunny Health & Fitness, Goplus and Egofit.
- User manuals, which often give a different, more cautious weight limit or maximum daily use than the listing, along with lubrication and belt adjustment instructions.
- Amazon listings, checked against the brand's own figures.
- Independent reviews from publications that test equipment, such as Live Science, Tom's Guide, TechRadar, BarBend, OutdoorGearLab and Garage Gym Reviews. We cite them by name.
- Safety records from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalls and warnings lists and SaferProducts.gov.
- Official health and activity guidance from sources such as the CDC and the Compendium of Physical Activities, for pages about steps, speed and calories.
How we handle conflicting specs
Walking pad specs often disagree between sources. When they do, we say so on the page, name the sources, and, for anything that affects safety (such as the maximum user weight), we plan around the lower figure. We prefer continuous horsepower to peak horsepower where a brand publishes it, and we label brand-only claims, such as an unverified motor rating, as claims.
How we pick products
- Define the buyer: what the person needs the pad to do (desk walking, incline, heavier users, tall users, small spaces, quiet floors).
- List the specs that decide that need, for example belt length for tall users or folded size for small apartments.
- Build a shortlist of models currently sold on amazon.com and confirm each listing matches the model.
- Remove anything with an unresolved recall or CPSC warning, or a listing we cannot confirm.
- Rank the rest for that specific buyer, and write down who should skip each one.
Prices, links and images
We do not print prices, because they change daily and Amazon's rules do not allow outdated prices on affiliate sites. Instead we use price tiers (budget, mid-range, premium) and link to the live price. We do not copy Amazon customer reviews or ratings. Some links earn us a commission; see our affiliate disclosure.
How often we update
Walking pad models and listings change every few months. We review every buying guide at least every three months, check the CPSC list before each update, and refresh all buying guides before January, the busiest month for new fitness equipment. The date at the top of each page shows when it was last updated.
